The Country's Top Pit Crew

I arrived on the campus of BMHS last night a good forty-five minutes before kickoff.  As I began the short walk to the stadium, I saw a vehicle surrounded by young people decked out in all white.  I instinctively knew three things about this football game:

  1. They were the long-standing, world famous BMHS Pit Crew
  2. The theme for the evening was a "white-out"
  3. If the game got boring, I wouldn't be bored
Not in the slightest, as it turns out.  I talked to the kids before the game, and the ever-gracious seniors not only welcomed the opportunity to appear on camera and participate in an interview, but also invited me to participate, as well.  Now, THAT'S hospitality.

editor's note: That's twice in two Fridays that a student section from K-Vegas has welcomed Finally Friday! to their madness.  I am SO spending time in both student sections during basketball season.

Villains, Greyhounds and Football...Oh, My!

This week, Finally Friday! is headed to K-Vegas to watch yet another battle of undefeated teams.  as Bishop McGuinness hosts North Surry.  I've already reached out to both schools for some Pop Quiz contestants, and I can't wait to hear if I'll get to hang with the Pit Crew for a quarter.

Full Disclosure:  I graduated from Bishop McGuinness.  A long, long time ago.  Like, the Ice Age.  Bishop was still a Winston-Salem school then, and had no football team.  So, I'm going to live vicariously through the current students and add Friday night's game to my own high school experience!

Stay tuned as the week moves on for updates!

Rookie Mistakes

While I'm sure every fledgling blogger wants to be an instant success, I'm really grateful that no more than five folks are reading my blog thus far.

Why?

I never verified where tonight's game was actually being played.  Really.

I mean, I was prepared.  Media card in a way-too-big laminate, smartphone, HD video camera, everything.   I had even done a feature on the "Home" school.  So, I raced the Deathmobile over to Clemmons so I could be an hour early and soak it all in.

So, my rustbucket and I have high-tailed it over to K-Vegas and I sit here in the cool comfort of the press box, beside a REAL sportswriter from the Journal.

At least they have complimentary drinks. Fail.
